Exciting ideas for dining, relaxing, and holiday shopping in Pickering Nautical Village, and a “cheers!” to a healthy and prosperous 2021!

The 2020 holiday season is facing new challenges as a result of COVID-19. With most consumers opting to shop online, why not consider local options. Found in our own backyard, the holiday shopping in Pickering Nautical Village boasts an array of boutique businesses that can help you check off those on your Christmas list. Even the naughty ones. Here’s a round-up of local merchants that can help take the stress out of the holiday rush.

The delicious smell of chocolate whoopie pies fills the air as you enter the Nautical Village. Tianna & Donna, the lovely ladies who own the Coco Cake Co on Liverpool Rd, can make your holiday baking a breeze.  With freshly scratch-baked cookies, cakes, and cupcakes, all made on premises with high-quality ingredients, they’ve got your baking needs covered.  Christmas cookie packages are available for order by calling 905-420-5191 during store hours or by email at info@cococakeco.com.

My Spa, the oasis with the bright teal door nestled in the #NauticalVillage, supports local makers by opening the Myspa Gift Shop. Owner Rosanna has curated a collection of local hand-made gifts and stocking stuffers, including hand-made tie-dyed face masks, a selection of modern wall prints, hair accessories, and unique hand-crafted key chains. #SecretSanta yourself with a Spa gift certificate or add a Dermalogica holiday skincare gift package to your #ChristmasWishlist. Face masks are mandatory for all spa treatments.  To book an appointment, please call 905-492-2656.

Even our furry friends will be expecting a little treat this year. Dogs Town Grooming, a full-service salon for dogs and cats of all breeds, located in the Bay Ridges Plaza, is gifting a photo of your pet with a Christmas backdrop. Book a grooming appointment to schedule your holiday photo.  Owner Tina says her best friend Theo is not on the naughty list this year, and I agree! How cute is he?

While your fur baby enjoys an afternoon of pampering, I suggest a little pampering for yourself. The Bay Ridges plaza boasts not just one but three options to get you #holidayparty ready. Despite being forced to close their doors last year due to a devasting fire in the plaza, original plaza tenants, The Royal Barber Shop, and Riviera Coiffure have remained part of our waterfront community since the early 1970s.  Call Tony at the Riviera Coiffure for fresh holiday highlights at 905-839-5488.

Looking for a little more glam? Can you say “lashes, lashes, lashes?” Stop into Da’ Beauty Bar at 719 Krosno Blvd, the newest resident to the Bay Ridges plaza. Hair, lash & nail services are by appointment only.

Can’t decide on a holiday dinner menu?  Too exhausted to even contemplate cooking another turkey dinner?  Holiday shopping in Pickering Nautical Village can even get your festive meal-planning taken care of!

Executive pastry chef Mr. Delicious, the purveyor of insanely good eggnog cheesecake, will be offering unique take out options all winter.  First up is a $10 Jerk Chicken special, complete with rice & peas, mango salad, and plantain.  He’s now taking orders for Christmas Rum cake as well. If you haven’t tried his homemade rum & raisin tropical ice cream yet, what are you waiting for? It makes me live!

Mr. Delicious is also taking holiday bookings for private parties, private dining, and catering. Call Mr. Delicious at 905-420-3111, or look to FaceBook for more winter specials and events to come.

Celebrating their 12th anniversary on the waterfront this year, Port Restaurant is offering two types of dining gift cards to make it easier for you to check off that hard to shop for someone on your list.  Physical gift cards can be purchased from the front desk – a perfect excuse to nip in for a glass of wine and some lemon butter wings – or e-Gift cards can be purchased online.

Get thee to Chuuk to try the Pink Jaguar.

If the idea of a bowl of comfort soup makes you feel warm and festive, or you just need to take a shopping break, check out the rotating #soupdejour at Chúuk. Follow their foodie pics on Instagram for inspiration. Being slightly margaritas obsessed, I must share this picture. Two words: Pink Jaguar.

Suppose you’ve got visions of diamond sugarplums dancing in your head. In that case, the time is right to visit the Nautical Village’s Diamond Ring Studio. Book an appointment by calling 905-492-7000 to design the customized ring of your dreams. Ed will help you bring your diamond dreams to life.  Diamond earrings also fit nicely into a Christmas stocking (wink).

If this season and all its demands leave you feeling a little run down, it may be time to see one of the professional health practitioners at Pinewood Natural Health Centre.  Hey, 2020 has been a challenging year, and it’s essential to take care of you. #MakeYourselfaPriority

What truly keeps the Nautical Village vibrant is its beautiful natural surroundings.  Pickering’s beautiful waterfront inspired residents Emma Roberts, Jo-Anne Chow, and Amandine Viaud to start a grassroots charitable initiative to help those in need in our community by developing the YOUR PICKERING calendar.  All calendar images were shot by local residents and designed by local creative agency Brand Creek Creative Co. With support from the City of Pickering, proceeds from the calendar will be given to St. Paul’s on the Hill Community Food Bank.  Calendars are $16, with free local delivery. If outside of Pickering, a $10 mailing charge will be levied. Buy a beautiful calendar. Help a beautiful city. #GivingBack

Keep in mind during the holiday frenzy that Canada Post is expecting delays in postal service due to an increase in volume as we practice #socialdistancing and #stayhome.  It is recommended to plan, shop early, and send early.

Lastly, a gentle reminder as we enter the long days of winter, COVID-19 precautions and other health measures may fluctuate, affecting the hours and availability of all businesses listed. It is recommended to call ahead or check websites for the most current information when holiday shopping in Pickering Nautical Village. Stay healthy. #DurhamStrong

Choosing to #buylocal, either for a unique one-of-a-kind gift or gift certificate helps our community stay vibrant and economically healthy. Think big by shopping at a small business in our neighbourhood. #ShopTheNeighbourhood

A toast to all the businesses that make our little slice of Lake Ontario a great place to live and grow. “Cheers!” to a healthy and prosperous 2021! #DurhamStrong #PickeringProud
