Welcome to Clarington

The Municipality of Clarington was created in 1974 following the amalgamation of the former Town of Bowmanville, the Village of Newcastle and the Townships of Clarke and Darlington. In 1993, the Municipality was renamed to Clarington: a blend of the names of the original Townships of Clarke and Darlington. Today, Clarington is comprised of 15 hamlets, four urban centres, and three downtown areas: Downtown Bowmanville, Village of Newcastle and Orono.

Historic downtown Bowmanville offers quaint charm on its main street. With many of the businesses in the original historic buildings, Bowmanville buzzes with shops, restaurants and independent local businesses. In a typical year Bowmanville is home to a range of popular events including a popular Apple Festival and BluesBerry festival.

Downtown Newcastle is where the community comes together. Home to restaurants, shops and home to numerous annual events and markets, The Village of Newcastle is a picturesque and growing town located on the shores of Lake Ontario.
